Youth Groups Canoeing
The open canoe originally came from Natives of North America. They built the open canoe for hunting, travelling and trading, nowadays the open canoe is mainly used for recreation and is a very popular activity among youth groups.
Canoeing is fun relatively easy to learn and as soon as youths have picked up the basic skills it can be a very exciting activity. Many youth groups in Scotland offer expeditions on the lochs of the north or paddle down some of Scotland’s awesome rivers such as the Spey, Tay or the Dee as well as day trips on Loch Lomond,
One of the most fascinating ways to discover these places is to travel by Canadian canoe. Some youth groups provide a variety of journeys and courses using some of Scotland’s greatest lochs and rivers. These places are some of the most beautiful and rural destinations in Scotland. Courses and trips are built to meet the needs of families, individuals as well as schools and youth groups. A limited amount of experience is required for these trips because of the training that occurs during the journey. However, some level of fitness is needed. Canoe trips are great for exploring our environment and after a day’s expedition a group will go to a guesthouse or set-up camp. How the evening is then spent is up to the individual group, whether it be explore the local town, settling round the camp and relaxing before rising the next day for more canoeing.
